Spring is coming ! Finally a break from the cold and snow. However most people don’t realize the SPRING season is the when the salt and brine, which was copiously applied by HRM to our roads throughout the winter months, creates RUST which eats away at the underside of our vehicles.
For those of our customers who have invested in our Waxoyl® lifetime undercoating protection it’s time for you to book your vehicle in for it’s complimentary wash down to remove salt build up and to touch up any parts that have been damaged over the winter months.
To customers that have not consider spring cleaning the underside of your vehicle or have only applied simple commercial grade seasonal protection (this particularly applies to owners of electric vehicles) we strongly recommend that you do get it thoroughly cleaned and at the same time that you give serious consideration to investing in a TRUE lifetime protection system. Don’t forget that the cost of lifetime uncoating protection generally equates to the cost of 5 spray on lightweight annual underbody coatings. You might be asking yourself, why do most people get undercoating done in the fall ? Most yearly applications are put on in the fall to be able to make a barrier between the vehicle and the salt. However, most of these product are
easily worn off by the splashing of salty slush and abrasion of running over snow. Most likely after a month or two that fall application has already worn off high abrasion areas.
How does this relate to spring ? Well, in the middle of winter the temperatures are lower. This actually slows the chemical reaction that causes rust. While your vehicle has been on the roads in winter, and that yearly applied coating is wearing off; the salt and brine is now collecting. When the temperature rises the rust really starts and will continue throughout the summer. By the time you are ready for your next annual undercoat in the fall your vehicle will have felt the effects of RUST.
Cost Comparison:
Like the quote “Anything worth doing is worth doing badly”, if you are annually undercoating it is better than not. However, in the long run they are truly more expensive if you are to do it properly. The average spray from companies in the city are around $130 – 150 CAD plus Tax, an you should be spraying twice a year. This would calculated to 260 – 300$ year. Not to mention a lot of these undercoating products are messy and a nightmare for technicians which sometimes charge to clean an area before repairs.
